Károly Effenberger studied portrait and documentary photography at the Amsterdam Photo Academy. After graduating in 2005 he worked as an intern at the Amsterdam daily newspaper 'Het Parool'.

Currently he is a freelance photographer, working on assignments for a variety of Dutch and Belgian clients such as the daily newspaper "De Morgen". He also continues to work on several personal long term documentary projects such as "Alone" a story on loneliness in a rich western European country. And "Brecht", a story on a rural municipality in the North of Belgium.

Over the years Károly Effenberger has won several prizes at the Dutch Zilveren Camera photography competition. In 2015 he won the Belgium Nikon Press Photo Award for portraiture.

He currently lives in Belgium and is represented by Sluitertijd (BE) and Hollandse Hoogte (NL).
